Symptoms of Hot Axle

Symptoms of Hot Box (Seizure of Roller Bearing)

  • Smell

  • Splashing of oil

  • Smoke

  • Smell of burnt grease

  • Whistling sound

  • Discolourisation of paint on hot box plate

  • Flame

  • Red glow during night

  • Metallic sound

  • Skidding of wheels

  • Tilting of springs

Procedures:

    If hot axle box is found at a station where C&W staff are not provided, the vehicle shall be detached from the train.

  2. 2

    If hot axle is found between stations, train shall be brought to a stand immediately. Loco Pilot shall examine the axle box and attend it.

  3. 3

    In case of hot axle, Loco Pilot shall exercise his discretion with regard to the restricted speed at which it is safe.

    The SM receiving advice of hot axle, preferably receive the train on main line. Loco Pilot can enter station.

  5. 5

    If it is not possible to receive the train on main line, train shall be brought to a stop at FSS and received on any line.

  6. 6

    On arrival at station, hot axle wagon shall be examined by C&W staff or it has to be detached.

  7. 7

    It will be attached only after attending by TXR staff and given โ€—Fit to Runโ€˜ certificate.

  8. 8

    In case of any vehicle met with an accident and brought to a station for stabling from accident spot, it shall not be moved until DRM permits.
